Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Rishikesh: A Divine Journey

Rishikesh, the spiritual capital of India, is home to numerous ashrams and sacred spaces. Among them is the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram, a serene and divine place imbued with the blessings and miracles of the great saint Neem Karoli Baba. Situated opposite the I.D.P.L. factory on the road to Haridwar, six kilometers from Rishikesh, this ashram holds immense spiritual significance for devotees worldwide.

This article delves into the history, miraculous events, and deeply personal experiences that define Neem Karoli Baba Ashram in Rishikesh.

History of Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Rishikesh

The land for the ashram was acquired in 1970 under Neem Karoli Baba’s guidance. However, following Baba’s Mahasamadhi in 1973, the land remained neglected for nearly eleven years. It wasn’t until 1983 that devotees began actively searching for the site, leading to the ashram's resurgence.

The Miraculous Encounter

In 1983, P.K. Chopra, the General Manager of the Hydel Institute, Dehradun, and his family set out to locate the land. While driving around Rishikesh, they encountered a man wrapped in a blanket smoking a bidi. This man provided them with precise directions to the site and even narrated the land's history. Mrs. Chopra noticed the man smoking continuously and worried about the sparks burning the car seat. Reading her thoughts, the man assured her, “Mother, I am throwing the bidi away,” and immediately did so.

Upon reaching the destination, the mysterious man refused to accompany them further. When Chopra-ji turned back after inspecting the land, the man had disappeared. The family firmly believed it was Neem Karoli Baba himself guiding them.

The Establishment of the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Rishikesh

On July 10, 1984, a murti of Hanuman ji was installed in a humble ceremony attended by a large crowd of devotees and pandits. The divine energy of the event set the foundation for the ashram's spiritual legacy. In April 1985, during Hanuman Jayanti, the ashram witnessed a miraculous incident.

The Miracle of the Monkey

As the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand recitations filled the air, a large monkey entered the ashram. It walked through the crowd, uncovered a basket of prasad, and took a handful. It then slipped through barbed wire and entered the hut built for Maharaj-ji. Devotees believed it was Hanuman himself in disguise, a divine play orchestrated by Baba.

The Role of Siddhi Ma in the Ashram

Siddhi Ma, a close devotee and spiritual caretaker of Neem Karoli Baba’s legacy, played a pivotal role in nurturing the ashram's spiritual environment. She often stayed at the Rishikesh ashram, ensuring it remained a haven for devotees. Her presence continues to bless those who visit the sacred space.

A Transformative Experience

In December, during one of my visits to Rishikesh, I was consumed by a lingering thought that I couldn’t free myself from. After completing my meditation at Swami Sivananda Ghat, I felt a pull to visit Neem Karoli Baba Ashram.

Upon arriving, I met Bhanu Ji, the ashram manager, for the first time. Without me uttering a word, he guided me to the first floor of the ashram and instructed me to enter a particular room. He assured me with a calm smile, “You’ll find all your answers there.”

Inside, I discovered a room adorned with a large picture of Siddhi Ma on one wall and Neem Karoli Baba’s image on another. Overcome with emotion, I cried for thirty minutes and eventually fell asleep on the floor. When I woke up, a profound sense of peace washed over me.

As I descended the stairs, Bhanu Ji asked, “Did you find your answer?” I nodded silently, my heart brimming with gratitude. Even as I write this, I feel Neem Karoli Baba’s presence beside me, guiding and protecting me.
